How to Prepare for Your Free Outdoor Project Estimate
A free estimate is your chance to get real answers about your project. A little preparation helps you get a clearer plan and a more accurate price. Here is how to get the most out of it.
1. Know What You Want the Space For
Think about how you will use it. Grilling and dining? Relaxing with family? Hosting big gatherings? Your answers help shape the size, layout, and features that make sense.
2. Gather Some Inspiration
Save a few photos of decks, patios, or yards you like. Pictures make it much easier to show the style you have in mind. You can also browse the three levels of options on our Project Planner to see which one feels closest.
3. Have a Rough Budget in Mind
You do not need an exact number, but a comfortable range helps us suggest the right materials and features. It also helps you compare options without surprises.
4. Check Your HOA Rules
Many Northern Virginia neighborhoods have an HOA with rules about outdoor projects, colors, and materials. If you have one, look up the approval process early so it does not hold up your project later.
5. Know Your Property
If you have a plat or survey of your property, have it handy. It shows property lines and can help with planning and any permits the project may need.
6. Write Down Your Questions
Some good ones to ask:
- What materials do you recommend for my yard, and why?
- What is the expected timeline once the project is approved?
- Will this project need a permit?
- What does the written quote include?
What Happens Next
After the visit, you receive a written quote so you know the scope and price before any work begins. There is no pressure and no obligation.
